At Element, our focus is helping small businesses grow and succeed.

As Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says: “Success isn’t overnight. It’s when every day you get a little better than the day before. It all adds up.”

And as numbers people (although we really are much more than that), we can assure you that it really does add up! We are strong believers in the compounding power of 1%. Making small improvements each day can lead to BIG results.

To assist you on your journey, we have developed a process that helps you build a roadmap to business success. We call our process ‘The 5 Elements of Success’ and we have designed it to work in partnership with you.

Want to know what the 5 elements are? We have summarised them below:

1. Where are you now?

Seems simple enough, right? But in order to know where you want to go, it is really important to take stock of where your business is right now.

Your business is your vehicle to personal success and you need your business to work for YOU. Not the other way around.

By taking the time to really understand your business in its current state, this will help you shape and define current challenges and opportunities.

2. Where do you want to be?

Once you have worked out where you are now, your starting Point A, you need to work out where you want to be in the future – your destination Point B.

You can’t have a direction if you don’t know your destination point. Preparing an annual business plan is a great way to work out your Point A and Point B. The key components of a business plan include:

  • A clear purpose
  • A clearly articulated vision
  • What the owners want to achieve
  • High level budget
  • Relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Opportunities and challenges
  • Cascading goals and a clear action plan.

Need help? We hold half day workshops with our clients to develop clear and tailored business plans.

3. What key areas need to be considered?

Once you have a Point A and Point B, there will be key areas that need to be considered and addressed. You may not quite know what these areas are yet, but a business diagnostic will help.

A business diagnostic takes a deep dive into key areas of your business to identify opportunities and challenges.

4. Creating your roadmap

Now for the fun part! Actually every step along the way will provide valuable insights if you truly trust this process.

The results of your business diagnostic will give you a great understanding of what needs to happen to move your business from Point A to Point B. Creating your roadmap is all about:

  • Prioritising key areas – impact versus time;
  • Creating specific action plans around those areas; and
  • Implementing those action plans.

5. Measure, monitor & redefine

You can’t monitor what you don’t measure. This final step is arguably the most important. This is the accountability step.

By monitoring key KPI’s around your roadmap action plan, you will be track your journey from Point A to Point B. It also allows you the flexibility to work out if something isn’t working. That is when you can adjust and redefine your goals.

The best part of this process is that it is iterative. Once you have reached your Point B, this becomes your Point A and you start again. This creates a positive upward spiral so that you can build your business for success.
